Effort at
reconciling the two factions of Qua Iboe Church of Nigeria and United
Evangelical Church into one conference for the spiritual growth and
enhancement of evangelism in the Church is yielding positive result.
This came
on the heels of the peace process brokered by Akwa Ibom State Governor
Mr Udom Emmanuel between the leadership of the two conferences held at
Government House , Uyo.
Speaking
shortly after the meeting, Governor Emmanuel, a member and an officer of
Qua Iboe Church, expressed appreciation! to God for bringing the
leaders of the body of Christ to brainstorm on the unity of the church
and profer a way forward for attainment of its set goals in evangelism.
He said :
“let me first of all thank God for opportunity like this and register my
appreciation to the two bodies but one body in christ. Today’s meeting
has been a friendly and fantastic encounter bereft of offence and
hurting of each other. The progress we”ve registered today is an
indication that we don’t need more than one or two meetings to resolve
what ever issue before us”
“All that
people have heard in the past 16 years are things of the past and i
really want to believe God that with determination every member of this
Committee have resolve to bring the lingering issue to an end. Good
enough the disagreement is not rooted in doctrine but on the choice and
use of a name which I believe the matter has been resolve even before we
came here. We’re waiting to announce the resolution to the World and
that will be in a matter of weeks”,
Mr
Emmanuel who thanked the leaders of the two conferences for maintaining
the doctrine and members of the church for their steadfastness in the
faith through the sustenance of the vision of its founding father
Reverend Samuel Bill, particularly commended the church leaders for
their peaceful disposition towards putting to an end the sixteen years
lingering feud and expressed optimism that the thorny issues over name
and status would be resolved in subsequent meetings.
“i really
thank the two sides for their determination and the members too for
standing by the church in the past sixteen years. Without the members
this meeting won’t have been necessary because each an every member had
the option of joining another denomination but they held on to the old
time religion that taught them the ways of the Lord “
He added :
” Let me use this opportunity to reassure the public that what was
perceived as division in our church was was not really a division but a
disagreement on the name to be used for evangelism and today were
‘charting a way forward towards resolving it” .
Earlier in
their remarks, the General superintendent Qua Iboe Church of Nigeria
Reverend EKpedeme Effanga expressed appreciation to God for the meeting
which he said was the first to be convined by the church for both divide
to come together to seek progress of the religious body and described
it as the handiwork of God maintaining that God shall prevail in the
body of Christ.
At the
peace talk, delegates including Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok, Rtd. Major
General Edet Akpan, Ministers and officers of the church across the
country were in attendance.
