A man who was formerly an advocate for LGBT rights is now a champion of Christianity after he turned his life over to Christ.
Christian Today reports that David Bennett grew up in an agnostic home in Australia. Although he attended a conservative Christian school, he rejected Christianity and came out as gay when he was 14. He experienced discrimination as a gay man which led him to campaig for the rights of the LGBT community.
God had his hand on Bennett, however, and now, after being converted while in college by a Christian filmmaker he was interviewing, Bennett is involved in spreading the truth of Scripture.
He says he is especially inspired by Psalm 45:2 which says: Grace has anointed your lips.”
"I have always had this strong sense that God has called me to speak out, in a way that's loving but still truthful. That is the difficult part in this whole thing – what is Christian truth?” said Bennett who now works as a speaker with the Oxford Center for Christian Apologetics.
Bennett praised the Church of England’s recent decision to hold to biblical standards regarding same-sex marriage.
He is also writing a book about his conversion and how he is now involved in Christian ministry. Although Bennett says he is still gay, he has committed to celibacy and to ministering to others.
